Yokai pages 26, 27

Here are a couple of pages from UY: Yokai, the original painted graphic novel I'm working on. I worked on 5-ply strathmore 500 series bristol, using Badger Black Opaque ink, and Windsor Newton watercolors. Years ago I did a story using just watercolors, but I have just two and a half months to write, draw, and paint a 56 page story and using the inked outline method speeds up the process a lot.

I photographed the art on a cloudy day, and some of the color (particularly blue) and details seem to be washed out.

I'll post a couple of step-by-step look at another page later.

sometimes reading all the different japanese comics/ old artworks i've come across the giant yokai salamander, and then to KNOW that they're actual live creatures as well that exist in Japan... makes you wonder what else out of the mythologies is real ;) lol. Although maybe they don't breath flamy liquids....

I agree, these have inspired me to go back and work on my comic book pipe dream.

I look forward to the book and hopefully meeting you at Baltimore Comic Con

Wow I love the vibrant colours. I can't wait to see the step by step. I can't even imagine how time consuming/satisfying a full painted graphic novel is.
